The Journey

Our journey as a business

When I think of our journey as a business, as a team and as part of the Botswana financial services industry, one thing comes to my mind… white water rafting in the Zambezi river! The river of life in our line of business is unforgiving, terrifying, fast and so powerful that you can get swept away and thrown out into a whirlpool of churning water and chaos. You may not know which way is up and which way is down, and you may even get hurt along the way or even be convinced that you are going to die, but, the ride is exhilarating! It’s absolutely challenging, refreshing and a real adventure. You are forced to face what may look to be impossible head on, and to find a way to cope and to come out better and stronger. And just as you find your balance, you start to understand that this wild and treacherous river is just water, and that as you learn how to respect and handle these currents, flows and forces, that you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
In 2007 we started off by renting a modest yet charming office space in Kgale Siding, just passed the St Joseph’s School and founded a business called Strategic Wealth. Our vision, to become a leading provider of professional investment advice in Botswana.
We have also seen a lot in our time in the market. We experienced one of the worst global financial market crashes in 2008 and saw how it impacted both our clients’ local and offshore portfolios. We were there for the birth of the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority and have watched as the regulator has established itself firmly in the industry. We have seen the establishment of new asset managers and administrators as well as the development of the new CBD in Gaborone, and have also watched as some market players left the industry or failed. We have watched and admired the growth and talent of many individuals in the industry with their continuing drive to self-develop and improve. More recently we have witnessed COVID 19 and all the impacts and changes this virus has caused to the industry and life in general.
Our journey has been a real and truly amazing experience for us so far and we have gained and developed so much insight into financial services and asset consulting in Botswana. We have also developed a deep passion for those individuals and members who are saving for retirement. We remain committed as an organisation to making a difference through education so that Batswana can enjoy a dignified retirement.
Together with our colleagues and friends we are the Botswana industry today and we look forward to growing our collective success and achieving more together.
